Is 3 months enough for IPMAT Preparation?

To put it bluntly, IPMAT is a difficult exam to crack. If you’re wondering, “Is 3 months enough for IPMAT Preparation?”, that’s a common thought.

“Can I really do this in 90 days?” is probably what’s on your mind if you’ve just realized that the exam is in three months and you’re just getting started.

Let’s have a conversation.

Breathe first.

When you see people on forums claiming to have been studying for a year, completing 100 quant questions every day, finishing entire RC passages in five minutes, and juggling mocks every other evening, three months might not seem like much.

The problem is that the journey is yours, not theirs.

Indeed, if you use them, three months can be sufficient to crack IPMAT.

Where You Stand Is Where It All Begins

Identifying your starting point honestly should be the first step. Be brutally honest with yourself.

  • Does math come naturally to you or does it terrify you?
  • Do you like reading and have no trouble understanding complex passages?
  • Have you had a chance to read the IPMAT paper yet?

Do that right away if you haven’t already. Visit the official websites of IIM Rohtak or IIM Indore to view a previous exam. You can get a sense of the exam’s atmosphere by simply reading it.

You can create a 90-day strategy once you are aware of your current situation.

The syllabus is deep but not very extensive.

The depth of the syllabus, particularly in Quant, is what worries people about IPMAT, not its breadth.

The questions in the Quantitative Aptitude section go beyond what is typically found in math classes. It’s not enough to just “know the formula” — you have to apply it quickly, under pressure, with tricks.

Conversely, verbal ability is more about reading, taking in, and interpreting than it is about following rules. You’ll notice RCs that aren’t always clear-cut, vocabulary, paraphrases, and sentence corrections.

The good news? You can easily finish the entire syllabus in three months. All you have to do is plan and set priorities.

What Should Your 3-Month Plan Look Like?

Let’s break it down in broad strokes.

Month 1: Foundation and Familiarity

This month is all about syllabus coverage. Your goal here isn’t to become a master. It’s to get to a point where: You have seen every topic at least once. You understand the basics of Quant and VA. You have built a habit of studying daily.

  1. Stick to two major subjects per day — say, Arithmetic in the morning and RCs at night.
  2. Focus on understanding concepts and solving beginner-level questions. If you’re starting from zero, AceIPM’s topic-wise crash courses and handpicked practice sheets can really help here.

Month 2: Practice and Pattern Recognition

This is when you move from learning to applying. You’ll now start doing: Sectional tests, Timed practice, Short 60- or 90-minute mock sessions. The idea is to internalize question patterns and start solving questions with confidence and speed. Focus especially on: Speed math (mental calculations, approximation), Reading speed and comprehension, Accuracy in tricky grammar and logic questions. You should also start identifying your strong and weak areas. Maybe you always do well in RCs but mess up geometry. That’s okay — now is the time to fix it.

Month 3: Strategy and Mocks

This is where everything comes together.

You’ll now begin full-length mocks — ideally 2 or 3 a week — and deep-dive into mock analysis after each one.

Mocks aren’t just for scoring. They’re for learning:

  • Where do you waste time?
  • What kinds of silly mistakes keep repeating?
  • Which section needs extra revision?

Also, begin polishing your test-taking strategy: Do you start with VA or QA? Skip the hard ones first or go in order? These are personal calls you can only answer through trial and error.

What About People Who Started Earlier?

Let us be real. There will always be people who’ve been preparing since Class 11 or started with a coaching institute in January. That’s okay. You’re not here to compete with their timeline. You’re here to maximize your own. In fact, sometimes people who have less time do better — because they’re focused, intense, and not burnt out. They don’t have the luxury to waste time procrastinating or over-planning. A Word of Advice: Avoid Comparison. Please don’t fall into the trap of scrolling through Telegram groups or Reddit and thinking you’re behind. You’re not behind. You’re on your own clock, and as long as you stay consistent and committed, you’re exactly where you need to be.

Final Tips from AceIPM

  1. Don’t skip the basics. Even if you think time is short, trust us — spending time mastering percentages or tenses in Week 1 will help you in Week 9.
  2. Don’t just solve. Review. Every time you solve a mock, spend double the time reviewing it. That’s where the growth happens.
  3. Sleep, hydrate, and breathe. You’re not a machine. Studying 12 hours a day but burning out by Week 3 is worse than doing 5 focused hours and staying healthy.
  4. Ask for help when stuck. Whether it’s your coaching group, a mentor, or even DMs on AceIPM’s doubt group- reach out. You’re not alone.

So, Is 3 Months Enough?

Yes. It’s enough to cover the syllabus, practice smart, master your weak spots, and build a winning test strategy. It’s enough to go from zero to confident, from confused to clear, and from nervous to prepared. It’s enough — as long as you decide that it is. So close that tab, take out your notebook, and start your Day 1. You’ve got this. And AceIPM’s got your back.
