JIPMAT 2027: Everything You Need to Know About

Exam dates, application process, syllabus, fees, and all else you need to know about the Joint Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test, in one article.

The Joint Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test, popularly referred to as JIPMAT, is the entrance test for the five-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM) at two Institutes of Management Studies, namely IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu, run by NTA.

For those aspiring to attend an IPM program at an IIM other than the Indore and Rohtak campus but did not succeed in their attempt, the JIPMAT is definitely something to consider. This article covers all information that candidates would require about the JIPMAT exam.

What is JIPMAT and which IIMs accept it?

JIPMAT was introduced to provide a single common entrance route to the IPM programmes at IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu : two of the newer IIMs that are rapidly building their academic reputation and placement ecosystems.

Unlike IPMAT Indore, which is conducted by IIM Indore independently, JIPMAT is managed by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This means the registration portal, admit card download, and results are all handled through NTA’s platform at nta.ac.in.

Note: A single JIPMAT application and score is used for both IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu. You choose your preferred institute(s) during the application process itself.

Important dates for JIPMAT 2027

Registration process

JIPMAT registration is conducted entirely online through the NTA portal. Here’s a step-by-step overview of how the process works:

  • Step 1 – Make an account on NTA’s website. Visit https://nta.ac.in/ and create an account with your phone number and email address. They will give you a user ID and password.
  • Step 2 – Complete the application form. Provide all the personal information like name, date of birth, category, address, educational qualifications like marks obtained in class 10th and 12th and choose your desired city for examination.
  • Step 3 – Mention your institute preference. During filling the form, you have to choose if you are applying to IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, or both institutes.
  • Step 4 – Upload necessary documents. These include your latest passport-sized photograph, your signature and your class 10 mark sheet. All photographs should be according to the NTA guidelines before uploading.
  • Step 5 – Pay the application fee. The fee can be paid using net banking, debit/credit cards, and/or UPI through the NTA website.
  • Step 6 – Save the confirmation page. Once the fee is paid successfully, save your application confirmation page.

Pro tip: Fill out the form carefully, especially your date of birth and category. Errors in these fields can disqualify you even after clearing the exam. The correction window is limited and may not cover all fields.

Application fee

The JIPMAT application fee is structured by category. Based on previous years, the expected fee structure for JIPMAT 2027 is as follows:

CategoryApplication fee (expected)
General / OBC-NCL / EWS₹2,000 – ₹2,500
SC / ST / PwD₹1,000 – ₹1,250

Note: The exact fee will be confirmed in the official JIPMAT 2027 notification. The figures above are based on recent JIPMAT cycles and are subject to revision by NTA.

Eligibility criteria

Prior to registration, ensure that you fulfill all eligibility criteria, failure to do so may result in your application being disqualified, even if you take the test.

Qualifying Examination: The candidate must have successfully passed Class 12 or equivalent examination from any recognized Board such as CBSE, ISC, State Boards, IB, and Cambridge.

Minimum Percentage (General/OBC/EWS): The candidate who belongs to the general, OBC, and EWS categories must secure a minimum of 60% marks in the aggregate percentage in Class 12 mark sheet.

Minimum Percentage (SC/ST/PwD): The candidate who belongs to the SC, ST, and PwD category must secure a minimum of 55% marks in the aggregate percentage in Class 12 mark sheet.

Age Criteria (General Category): The candidate should not be born before 1st August 2007. Age criteria for JIPMAT 2027 intake will be 20 years as on July 31, 2027.

Age Criteria (SC/ST/PwD): The candidate who belongs to the SC, ST, and PwD category must not be born before 1st August 2002. An upper age limit relaxation of 5 years will be available for these categories.

Passing year of Class 12: The candidate must have completed his Class 12 education in either 2025 or 2026. Those candidates who will give their exam in Class 12 in 2027 can also apply for the test.

Stream: No such limitation regarding the stream has been provided for taking part in this exam. The students belonging to different streams such as science, commerce, arts, or humanities are free to apply for the JIPMAT test.

Conversion of CGPA to percentage: As the board may use the CGPA system in place of marks, hence you will be required to convert it into percentages with the help of its conversion formula provided by your board or from the official brochure of JIPMAT for 2027. You should use only that formula which is approved by the National Testing Agency.

Appearing candidates: In case your Class 12 exams will take place in 2027 and your results are not out, you can still apply. You will just have to give the Class 11/interim marks provisionally, and the final selection will be made only after confirmation of passing the 60% or 55% criterion.

Important: Students who have passed Class 12 before 2025 (i.e., in 2024 or earlier) are not eligible for JIPMAT 2027 under the standard criteria. This is a hard rule; the exam is designed for students coming fresh from school.

The full selection process

  • Stage 1 – JIPMAT Written Test: All qualified registered applicants will attend this test on the computer. Marks will be normalized for different batches if the test happens to be taken in multiple sessions.
  • Stage 2 – Shortlisting: Qualified candidates will be separately shortlisted for admissions into IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu using the JIPMAT marks. The cutoff scores for shortlisting are determined by each institution separately.
  • Stage 3 – Written Ability Test (WAT) & Personal Interview (PI): Shortlisted candidates will have to take the PI at respective IIMs. This stage is intended to evaluate the candidate’s soft skills, including communication and general knowledge
  • Stage 4 – Merit List: Final selection will be made from a composite merit list which will include marks of JIPMAT, WAT, PI, and academics (class 10th & 12th marks).

How to prepare for JIPMAT

Preparing for JIPMAT requires a structured, multi-month approach. The exam tests aptitude so your preparation must be built around genuine understanding, regular practice, and sharp time management.

1. Get yourself familiar with the exam pattern and syllabus first

This is a step that should be done even before opening any books for your preparation. Devote one hour to go through the JIPMAT notification thoroughly to understand the number of questions per section, marking scheme, and question types to get a head start on your preparation from day one.

2. Make a practical study timetable

JIPMAT aspirants usually begin their preparations at least 6-8 months prior to the actual exam date. Prepare a timeline for yourself that includes different phases of your preparation such as the basics phase, practicing different topics, mock test phase, and revision. Allocate sufficient time per week in each of the three sections—QA, VA, and DILR.

3. Improve your basics – topic-wise

  • QA: Start from the basics and build up as you progress. Many candidates who take the JIPMAT have underestimated how tough the questions related to Arithmetic & Algebra could get. Cover all the topics in the syllabus, learn the concepts, and then work on problem-solving of various levels of difficulty. Try to find shortcuts for topics that require a lot of time to solve, such as percentages, ratios, and Geometry.
  • VA: Reading is the best way to prepare for Verbal Ability. Read an English newspaper (The Hindu/Indian Express) every day and try to comprehend two full-length articles, not necessarily with a focus on improving vocabulary. Prepare a vocabulary list with the help of any good source. The sentence correction and fillers can be covered by exercises in any good grammar book.
  • DILR: Practice reading charts and graphs under pressure. Try practicing bar graphs, pie-charts, tables, and line graphs. In LR, blood relation, coding-decoding, and seating arrangement questions are high-frequency questions. Make sure you practice enough questions on all three types of topics.

4. Take mocks regularly and analyze them thoroughly

Mocks are not only practice exercises but also analysis tools. If you don’t analyze a mock properly, it’s no better than going to the gym without working out. Always spend as much time analyzing your mock as you spent attempting it. Identify areas in which you are doing poorly, and understand why and what can be done to improve upon them. AceIPM mocks are tailored specifically for students of JIPMAT, and get gradually harder – one of the best ways to gauge your preparedness.

5. Solve past papers of JIPMAT

Past JIPMAT papers contain gold in them for all those who are preparing. These give a clear idea of the kind of difficulty level, nature of RC passages, DILR sets and topics from Quantitative Ability.

6. Stamina to solve exams

The duration of JIPMAT is 150 minutes, which is 30 minutes longer than IPMAT Indore. This is an important distinction if you have not prepared yourself to sit and concentrate for 2.5 hours continuously. You can develop stamina through mock tests without any break.

8. Essential preparation tips

  • Start early. 6–8 months of consistent preparation is far more effective than 2 months of panic studying.
  • Prioritise accuracy before speed. Speed without accuracy in a negative marking exam will cost you more marks than it earns.
  • Don’t skip DILR. Many students treat it as secondary. In JIPMAT, it carries the same weight as QA and VA.
  • Track your progress. Maintain a simple log of your mock scores, section-wise accuracy, and the topics you’re improving on. Patterns become visible over weeks.
  • Stay consistent. Two hours every day beats ten hours once a week. Consistency compounds.

FAQs

What is JIPMAT and who conducts it?

JIPMAT (Joint Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test) is the entrance exam for the 5-year IPM programme at IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Is there negative marking in JIPMAT?

Yes. Every incorrect answer carries a penalty of 1 mark. Correct answers earn +4 marks. There is no negative marking for unattempted questions. Unlike IPMAT Indore, there is no short-answer section in JIPMAT – negative marking applies across the entire paper.

Can students from Arts or Humanities apply for JIPMAT?

Yes, absolutely. There is no stream restriction. Students from Science, Commerce, and Arts/Humanities backgrounds are equally eligible as long as they meet the age and percentage criteria.

How is JIPMAT different from IPMAT?

IPMAT Indore is conducted by IIM Indore itself and leads to admission at IIM Indore. JIPMAT is conducted by NTA and covers IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu. JIPMAT has three sections (QA, VA, DILR) and lasts 150 minutes, whereas IPMAT Indore has QA and VA sections over 120 minutes and includes a short-answer section. A single registration for JIPMAT can get you considered for two IIMs simultaneously.

What is the selection process after JIPMAT?

Shortlisted candidates based on their JIPMAT score appear for a Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) at the respective IIM. Final selection is based on a composite score of JIPMAT marks, WAT, PI performance, and academic record.

Can I apply to both IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu with one JIPMAT application?

Yes. The JIPMAT application allows you to indicate your preference for both institutes. Your score is shared with both, and each institute runs its own shortlisting and interview process independently.

When should I start preparing for JIPMAT 2027?

Ideally, 6-8 months before the exam – which means starting no later than October 2026 if you’re targeting the June 2027 window. Earlier is better, especially if your fundamentals in mathematics or English need significant work.

Conclusion

JIPMAT 2027 is actually an opportunity; it is not just a backup plan for anything else. IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu are both newly established institutions that have excellent teaching faculties, promising job placements, and all the prestige that comes along with the name IIM attached to them. To a 17 or 18 year old student who makes the cut, five years of IPM in any of these institutions is an outstanding beginning.

Strategic preparations, effective mock tests, and good time management skills are required to crack JIPMAT 2027. But this is definitely doable provided the student does the necessary groundwork beforehand.

Begin preparations early. Strategize. And enter that examination hall feeling prepared.
