- How to prepare for the exam
- Tips for improving scores
What is JIPMAT?
The Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test (JIPMAT) is a common entrance examination for any student after completion of their 12th Standard. It can be used to apply for integrated BBA+MBA style programmes provided by certain IIMs. The examination assesses a student’s aptitude in mathematics, verbal reasoning and language skills and is computer-based.
JIPMAT Exam Pattern
The JIPMAT exam is expected to follow the same pattern as recent years.

JIPMAT Marking Scheme
| Response Type | Marks |
| Correct Answer | +4 |
| Wrong Answer | -1 |
| Unattempted | 0 |
Example:
If you attempt 80 questions out of which 60 correct, you would have scored 240 marks but due to 20 wrong, a negative of 20 marks would result in a final score of 220 marks.
This means accuracy matters more than blind attempts.
JIPMAT Syllabus Overview
Unlike board exams, JIPMAT tests aptitude rather than memorization. The focus is on concepts, speed, logic, and comprehension.

Preparation Strategy for JIPMAT 2027
Phase 1: Foundation Building (Months 1–3)
Objective:
The primary focus of phase 1 of the preparation plan is to ensure that there is a solid basis for success over the first three months of JIPMAT; as the most critical phase of preparing for JIPMAT, all advanced questions in JIPMAT build upon core concepts.
Mathematics Basics
Starting with the fundamentals, students should master NCERT Mathematics basics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) such as:
- addition
- subtraction
- multiplication
- division
Grammar Basics
Additionally, learners should master the basics of Grammar, including:
- time/tense
- subject and verb agreement
- sentence structure
- articles
- prepositions
- vocabulary
Logical Reasoning Basics
Students should also learn how to logically reason, including:
- coding/decoding
- family/kinship
- orientation of place/direction
- syllogisms
- number sequences
Key Focus
The emphasis should not be on speed, but rather on developing and mastering sound concepts and processes.
Phase 2: Practice & Application (Months 4–6)
Objective:
Phase 2 (Months 4–6) will introduce students to lots of practice in applying all of the concepts they have learned so far.
Topic-wise Practice
Students will begin taking topic-wise tests for each chapter on a regular basis in order to:
- reinforce their understanding of the material
- identify areas where they are weak
Sectional Mock Tests
Additionally, sectional mock tests will be introduced for:
- Quantitative
- Logical Reasoning
- English
This helps students become familiar with how the actual exam will look.
Mistake Analysis
In addition to taking the tests, students should also:
- review their mistakes
- build a mistake log for individual concepts that are repeated
Key Outcome
Through practicing all of the concepts and reviewing their performance, students will convert what they have learned theoretically into potential performance on the actual exam.
Phase 3: Final Preparation (Last 2 Months)
Objective:
The last two months leading up to the exam will comprise Phase 3, which is the final phase of preparation.
Full-Length Mock Tests
At this point, students should focus only on full-length mock tests two months before the exam.
The mock tests must replicate all aspects of the JIPMAT exam (100 questions in 150 minutes).
Performance Analysis
After completing each mock, students must thoroughly analyze their performance.
Improvement Strategy
In addition, students should:
- repeatedly study their weaker areas
- practice their shortcuts
- complete speed drills every day
Final Outcome
The work completed in this phase will be used to:
- improve exam score
- build confidence
- develop exam temperament
Consistency during the last few weeks will help improve the percentile achieved and increase the likelihood that the student will be selected in the final selection process.
Final Verdict
The JIPMAT 2027 will again be a multiple-choice exam comprising 100 questions, tested over 150 minutes, divided evenly between the Quantitative, Reasoning, and English sections. While the exam has historically been easier than other qualifiers (due to its moderate difficulty), competition continues to increase every year.
Serious students who begin their preparation early, maintain a high degree of continuity and practice mocks intelligently, will achieve to the highest percentile and gain admission into an IIM immediately following high school.
